Jim and Cheryl ASA Award

The Birren Center for Autobiographical Studies is a nonprofit organization founded in 2023 by Cheryl Svensson, Ph.D., Dr. Birren’s colleague and protégé. We are dedicated to expanding the work and legacy of Dr. Birren. The keystone of our work is Guided Autobiography (GAB).

Through autobiographical studies, individuals attain a profound understanding of themselves and others. The process of writing and sharing life stories not only fosters personal growth but also promotes mental well-being, contributing to a more empathetic and interconnected society. GAB is therapeutic but not therapy.

GAB Instructors Meeting

The Birren Center provides a range of offerings, including instructor training courses such as the GAB Instructor Training Course, engaging online courses like "Shaking the Family Tree" and "Life Portfolio," dedicated support services, research opportunities, and interactive community events. These initiatives create spaces for people to connect, exchange ideas, and further explore the richness of our diverse life experiences.
